i haven’t blogged about a trip in quite some time or ever but if there is one to blog about this is it. i got to embark across the country this last week to visit my friend jaclyn and the incredible washington, dc. i wasn’t even prepared for what i actually experienced. i was completely underrating this when i arrived and the city and lifestyle here completely took my breath away.
the first day i arrived we laid low for a good majority of the day. checked out this yummy place called jerry’s philly cheese steaks and then embarked to dupont circle. we went to a bar called the mad hatter. i thought this place was never going to end. it was room on room on room. definitely different then the bars/clubs in utah.
the second day we went to ford’s theater. this is one of my top three favorites. we got to see where lincoln was assassinated and they just recently opened the petersen house, which is the house across from ford’s, where lincoln eventually died. this part in history kept me there for a good three hours. i read EVERYTHING in this exhibit. after i had my first potbelly’s experience. was not let down at all. we went to the white house. i felt like i was the bad guy with all the security around. i never realized how highly guarded the president is. there were men on top of the roof surveying the area as well. after this, we hopped on a metro and checked out the mall. went to the old post office tower, where i got an amazing view of the washington monument, then we checked out the national archives. it’s unreal how faded all the documents are. fun fact, pennsylvania is spelled wrong in the constitution. we were made it just in time to go to the natural history museum, where i got to see the dinosaur that was in the night at the museum.
day two we took our sight seeing to annapolis, maryland and gettysburg, pennsylvania. we did a tour of the us naval academy and learned what it takes to get into this school. everything about this school was amazing. the buildings were gorgeous and held so much history in regards to wars and technology. we also got to see the maryland state house, which was the first capitol building. this is where george washington signed his resignation from the american revolution. this town was so simple yet held so much history and the sailboats weren’t too bad either. we then continued our travels up to gettysburg where we got to travel the actual battlefield. we had an audio cd which was able to start us at day one of the battle and ending us at the gettysburg cemetery where lincoln made the famous gettysburg address. it was pretty incredible thinking about the history that took place right under my feet. we got to experience what the union and confederacy did. they had monuments everywhere, marking where certain turning points took place in the battle. all the monuments were facing towards the battlefield which i thought was cool because you could actually visualize what they saw.
day three we woke up with the intentions of getting to the holocaust museum in order to get tickets for later. we of course struggled a little, but ended up being just fine. we then went up to capitol hill. all i can say is wow. it’s amazing how you get on the metro in one place and get off and it’s a completely different atmosphere, and it’s only miles apart. we had a tour for the us capitol so while we waited for this, we checked out the library of congress. i wouldn’t mind studying in there. we then took the capitol tour. it was amazing seeing the rotunda, old hall, the galleries, etc. the capitol blew my mind all together. after, we went back to the holocaust museum. all i can say is wow. i’ll leave it at that. later this night, we went and saw all the nights. if you haven’t seen the monuments at night, i suggest you do. there is something about the lighting that makes it so surreal. we got to see the new mlk monument, which i think was my favorite. they had a wall full of key quotes in his speeches.
day four we went to arlington cemetery. this was my favorite part of the sight seeing. it was so beautiful. we watched the changing of the guard and got to see kennedy’s eternal flame. after we went to the american history museum where i got to see the first lady’s dresses and got a run through of presidents history, with a lincoln hat to top it off. i wouldn’t be a true dg if i didn’t seek out a delta gamma house while i was here. we travelled over to george washington university where i got to see their greek row and snap a picture in front of the dg house.
my trip ended with some yummy thai food and a marathon of friends with one of my best friends.
in the end, this may have been the best spring break to date. and i didn’t even see the ocean, which is very abnormal for me. thank you jon and jaclyn for being such great hosts in such a great city. and thank you washington, dc for just being you.

just when i think the the male species has once again disappointed me, one man always seems to turn that around. who may that man be? my good old daddy (yes, i’m one of those annoying girls who calls him daddy.) and what did he do? well my stupid self decided to let the gas tank run as far as it’s little heart could until it finally decided to not start in my driveway because it was out of gas. this has never actually happened to me, so being the do-it-yourself kind of girl i am not (i can change a tire though, so things are looking up) i called my dad to get his help. he drove from the humble abode of a town that i grew up in just to bring me a jug of gas and then proceeded to fill up my entire tank at the gas station. okay so yes this is a little thing and the blogging world (whoever actually reads my rambles) is probably wondering why i am actually blogging about this, but it made my day. and reminded me that although the opposite sex tends to frustrate me 99.9 percent of the time i always have one guy i can count on.
so we all know what a new year brings, new years resolutions. for me, i came across a website, www.perfectbucketlist.tumblr.com. it has made me realize what i have accomplished and what i still want to accomplish. whether you care or not, i’m going to write down the ideal bucket list for me. easier for me to remember when i have it somewhere safe and typed.

i currently wish i was watching the swan princess right now. and any movie that reminds me of my innocence for that matter. this week i embark on yet another finals week. how am i doing? let’s just say timing seems to have a good way of laughing in my face with just about everything in my life. but i take that as a challenge. it’s interesting feeling a sense of growing up within myself. with one more semester gone, comes my last semester in college, which means i have to start thinking about what i really want out of life. college has been my crutch, my way with not growing up too fast. but i think i’m ready for the next step. and if all else fails i’ll just curl up in bed with the swan princess and forget about my troubles for an hour or two.
